I know that skipping the baby monitor isn’t an option for me. That’s how our grandparents did it, right?īut for many of us today, this is impractical. So if you can avoid using a baby monitor altogether, that would be the safest way to go. Obviously, the safest baby monitors out there are our own eyes and ears. Is There Such a Thing as a Safe Baby Monitor? These baby monitors constantly emit strong bursts of microwave radiation when powered on – as much as 100 times per second, even when in standby mode. So why are these technologies dangerous? Baby monitors that use DECT or FHSS operate on the same electromagnetic frequencies that microwaves, cordless phones, and Wi-Fi routers use, and there are concerns about high levels of radiation being emitted from these devices. This is even being used in most audio baby monitors. But, are baby monitors the safest option? I wasn’t thrilled about using a wireless device so close to my baby. So like many parents, I turned to a baby monitor to be my watchful eyes and ears. I eventually realized that I needed to get other things done while he naps. Of course, that’s not possible – though I probably tried!
